Fishing shops, fisheries and trips
Tackle shops, specialist spearfishing shops, managed fisheries, charters, guides and instructors — researched and listed, with the date somebody last checked shown on every one.
How this list works
FishingHQ researches these businesses and lists them. Nobody pays to be here, nobody can claim a listing, and there is no account to create — for a business or for a reader. Inclusion means the business exists and somebody looked it up. It is not a recommendation.
This is a small pilot rather than a directory: 35 businesses, of which 30 were confirmed against the operator’s own information and 4 could not be. It is deliberately honest about that split, because a listing nobody has checked is worth less than nothing if it is presented as one that somebody has.
2 of these businesses have a web address that no longer works or no longer belongs to them. Those addresses are not offered as links here. It is a more common problem than it sounds: of the ten checked for this pilot, four had a broken, parked or reassigned domain — in one case now serving an entirely unrelated gambling site.
Tackle shops
Franlusa Canarias
Tackle shop · San Cristóbal de La Laguna, Tenerife
A sport-fishing tackle shop in La Laguna on Tenerife, describing itself as a specialist in spinning, jigging and surfcasting gear.
More about Franlusa CanariasLess about Franlusa Canarias
A physical shop at Calle San Andrés 23 in San Cristóbal de La Laguna, on the northern side of Tenerife rather than in the southern resorts, selling rods, reels, lures, soft plastics, jigs and terminal tackle, with an online side to the business.
THE STATED SPECIALISMS MATCH THE ISLAND'S FISHING. Spinning, jigging and surfcasting are the three ways most shore and small-boat fishing is done in the Canaries — a steep volcanic coast with deep water close in rewards a lure and a long rod far more than it rewards a static bait — and a shop naming those three is describing local practice rather than stocking to a list.
No spearfishing equipment is listed. That is recorded as an absence rather than assumed either way: a Canary tackle shop is not automatically a spearfishing supplier, and the two are separate service types here for that reason.
What they cover: Sea fishing, Lure fishing.
Calle San Andrés 23, 38108 San Cristóbal de La Laguna, Santa Cruz de Tenerife
Checked against the operator's own information — Somebody read this operator's own current information on the date shown. It is the strongest thing this site can say, and it is still not a guarantee that they are open today. Last checked 2026-08-29.
The shop's own site was read on 29 August 2026 and gives a street address in La Laguna, a landline, the range stocked and the disciplines it names itself a specialist in.
Lanzafishing
Tackle shop · Arrecife, Lanzarote
A tackle shop in the middle of Arrecife with published counter hours — recorded from a fishing club's own sponsor page, because no operator website was found.
More about LanzafishingLess about Lanzafishing
A fishing tackle shop at C/ Carlos V 13 in Arrecife, open Monday to Friday 9:00-13:00 and 16:00-20:00 and Saturday mornings, and a named sponsor of a local fishing club.
WHAT IS DELIBERATELY LEFT OUT. Search results claim the shop sells kayaks, repairs rods and reels and stocks spearfishing equipment. None of that appears on the only current source found, which says "artículos de pesca" and nothing more specific, so none of it is published here. A reader who needs a rod repaired should ring and ask.
WHY THE STATUS IS WEAKER HERE. What was read is a club describing its sponsor rather than the business describing itself, and no operator website was found. That is genuinely weaker evidence and the status shown says so. It is emphatically not a statement that the shop has closed: a missing website is a gap in what could be checked, not a fact about whether a shop is trading.
What they cover: Sea fishing.
Appears to be trading, on indirect information — This rests on indirect information rather than on anything the operator published. Treat it as a lead worth a phone call. Last checked 2026-08-29.
A local fishing club's own sponsor page was read on 29 August 2026 and gives the address, telephone, email and counter hours consistently. This is an independent listing rather than the operator's own account: no operator website was found, and nothing about what the shop stocks beyond general fishing tackle is published on the strength of it.
Padstow Angling Centre
Tackle shop · Padstow, Cornwall
A tackle shop on the South Quay at Padstow, whose website could not be reached to confirm anything further.
More about Padstow Angling CentreLess about Padstow Angling Centre
Listed in third-party directories at The Drang, South Quay, Padstow. Its own website returned a TLS error when it was checked, so nothing about its current stock, hours or trading status could be taken from the operator.
NOTHING HERE SAYS THIS SHOP HAS CLOSED. A quayside tackle shop in a working Cornish harbour is exactly the kind of business that may well be trading perfectly happily with an expired certificate nobody has noticed.
What they cover: Sea fishing.
The Drang, South Quay, Padstow
Website has a certificate problem — so it is not offered as a link here.
Not checked recently enough to say — This has not been checked recently enough to stand behind. It says nothing about whether the business is trading — only that we have not looked. Last checked 2026-08-28.
The shop's website returned a TLS internal error on 28 August 2026 and could not be read. That is a fault in the link and says nothing about whether the shop is trading.
Summerlands Tackle
Tackle shop · Westward Ho!, Devon
A North Devon tackle shop at Westward Ho!, trading from 1985, reported to have closed its retail premises in September 2024.
More about Summerlands TackleLess about Summerlands Tackle
The shop was a fixture of North Devon sea angling for nearly forty years. A local angling publication reported in August 2024 that it was to close, giving 14 September 2024 as the final day, and that it had been founded by Nick Laws in 1985 and latterly run by his daughter and son-in-law.
THIS IS RECORDED AS A REPORT AND NOT AS A FACT. The article could not be opened directly, and the operator has no remaining web presence to confirm or deny it. A business declared closed by a site it never asked to be listed on has a real grievance, so the state here is `closure_reported` and it will stay there until somebody confirms it properly.
AND THE WEB ADDRESS IS THE REASON THIS ENTRY IS WORTH HAVING AT ALL. The domain the shop used now serves an offshore gambling affiliate site. That is why no link appears above, and it is the single clearest demonstration of why a fishing directory that is not maintained is not merely out of date but actively harmful — a reader following a two-year-old link from a page headed with a tackle shop's name would arrive at a casino review page.
What they cover: Sea fishing, Coarse fishing, Carp fishing, Frozen bait, Fresh bait.
Nelson Road, Westward Ho!
No website recorded.
Reported closed, not confirmed by the operator — Somebody credible has reported this closed and the operator has not confirmed it. It is recorded as a report rather than as a fact, deliberately. Last checked 2026-08-28.
A local angling publication reported in August 2024 that the shop would close on 14 September 2024. That report is the evidence for the closure and it could not be read directly, so this is recorded as reported rather than confirmed. SEPARATELY, and not as evidence of closure, the domain formerly used by the business was found on 28 August 2026 to serve an unrelated gambling affiliate site; the URL has been dropped rather than published.
TJ's Fishing Tackle, Bait & Dart Supplies
Tackle shop · Cornwall
A Cornish tackle and bait shop described in third-party listings as long established, whose web address now redirects to a domain-parking host.
More about TJ's Fishing Tackle, Bait & Dart SuppliesLess about TJ's Fishing Tackle, Bait & Dart Supplies
The web address formerly used by this business now returns a permanent redirect to a domain-parking service. That is a specific and common state: a registration has lapsed or been transferred and the registrar is serving a placeholder.
NOTHING HERE SAYS THIS SHOP HAS CLOSED, and the distinction matters. A small shop that decides a website is not worth the annual fee is making an ordinary commercial decision, and a great many trade for decades on a phone number and a shop window. What it does mean is that the old address is no longer a way to reach them and must not be offered as one.
What they cover: Sea fishing, Coarse fishing.
No website recorded.
Not checked recently enough to say — This has not been checked recently enough to stand behind. It says nothing about whether the business is trading — only that we have not looked. Last checked 2026-08-28.
The former web address returned a 301 redirect to a domain-parking host on 28 August 2026. The URL has therefore been dropped rather than published as a link. This says nothing about whether the shop is trading.
Spearfishing and freediving shops
Freedivers Co.
Spearfishing and freediving shop · United Kingdom, online only
A UK online retailer of South African-designed spearfishing and freediving gear, adapted for British water.
More about Freedivers Co.Less about Freedivers Co.
The business supplies Freedivers SA and Hunt equipment. Its own account is that Freedivers South Africa have designed, tested and manufactured in Durban since 1997, and that the UK operation substitutes Italian Hunt shafts for the spring steel originals — which is a specific, checkable claim about what is different rather than a marketing one.
The connection is worth noting for a reader arriving from the South African species pages: the gear a Cape spearfisher uses is made in Durban, and this is where it reaches Britain.

Pescasub Lanzarote
Spearfishing and freediving shop · Tías, Lanzarote
A specialist spearfishing and freediving counter in Puerto del Carmen, on an island where the discipline is licensed separately from rod fishing.
More about Pescasub LanzaroteLess about Pescasub Lanzarote
The shop specialises in pesca submarina and apnea and stocks Cressi, C4 Carbon, Beuchat, Mares, Sigalsub, Omer, Pathos and Picasso. It states that it ships to all the Canary Islands, which for an archipelago is the difference between a local shop and an archipelago-wide one.
WHY A COUNTER MATTERS HERE. Canary spearfishing is licensed as its own class and the catch record shows that two-thirds of the people doing it walk into the sea from the shore. That is a discipline practised by residents with fitted equipment rather than by visitors with hired kit, and a shop that sizes a gun and cuts bands is the infrastructure that supports it.
ADDRESS, AND WHY IT IS THIS ONE. A third-party listing gives number 17 on the same street. The shop's own contact page gives number 26, in Puerto del Carmen, in the municipality of Tías. The operator's own page is what is shown above.
What they cover: Spearfishing, Freediving.

Spearfishing UK
Spearfishing and freediving shop · Cornwall PL25 3RF
A staffed spearfishing counter at Par in Cornwall, open six days a week, in a discipline whose British retail is otherwise almost entirely mail order.
More about Spearfishing UKLess about Spearfishing UK
The business trades as Spearfishing UK and publishes its company registration, its VAT number, a full postal address at Unit J, St Austell Bay Business Park on Par Moor Road, and staffed hours of nine to five Monday to Saturday. It stocks spearguns, wetsuits, fins, weights, rigging, masks, floats, knives and reels alongside freediving, foraging and snorkelling equipment, and states that it is the European distributor for Spierre carbon blades and for the New Zealand brand RUKU. Brands carried include Rob Allen, Salvimar, Epsealon, Pathos, Cressi, DiveR, Leaderfins, Mares and Riffe.
WHY A COUNTER IS A DIFFERENT OFFERING. The normal shape of specialist spearfishing retail in Britain is mail order, and most of the well-known British suppliers have no premises to visit. A speargun is chosen by length against the visibility a diver actually dives in; a wetsuit for this discipline is fitted and is often made to measure; bands are cut and rigged to a gun and a shaft. Those are decisions made better across a counter than across a returns policy.
AND WHERE IT IS. Par is on the south Cornish coast, which is among the most heavily fished and best documented stretches of coastline in Britain for both kayak angling and shore diving.
What they cover: Spearfishing, Freediving, Second-hand tackle.

Spearguns, wetsuits, fins and monofins, and the accessories the discipline needs. There is no counter to visit: this is a mail-order operation, which is the normal shape of specialist spearfishing retail in Britain and the reason the handful of shops with a physical presence are worth distinguishing from it.

Underwater Foraging
Spearfishing and freediving shop · Bodmin, Cornwall
A spearfishing and freediving shop in Bodmin with a physical counter as well as an online store, which also runs courses and buys and trades second-hand gear.
More about Underwater ForagingLess about Underwater Foraging
The stock is the specialist end rather than the general dive end: wetsuits, spearguns, fins, masks, snorkels, dive computers, weights, buoys, knives and accessories. Alongside the retail side the business runs three-day spearfishing courses and lobster foraging courses, takes people out on spearfishing charters, and buys and trades used equipment — which matters in a discipline where a beginner's first speargun is frequently somebody else's second.
A PHYSICAL COUNTER IS THE UNUSUAL PART. Specialist spearfishing retail in Britain is overwhelmingly online, and a shop where somebody can hold a gun and try a wetsuit before buying is scarce enough to be worth naming.
What they cover: Spearfishing, Freediving, Second-hand tackle, Tuition.

Managed fisheries
Blagdon Lake
Stocked trout stillwater · Blagdon, Somerset
The older and smaller of the two Somerset trout reservoirs, fly only, where carrying pike fly tackle is grounds for an immediate ban.
More about Blagdon LakeLess about Blagdon Lake
Fished under the same operator and the same general regulations as its larger neighbour, and deliberately not the same fishery.
THE DIFFERENCE THAT MATTERS IS THE PIKE RULE, AND IT IS THE OPPOSITE ONE. Pike fly fishing is permitted at Chew Valley and is not permitted here: the operator states that anyone suspected of pike fly fishing at Blagdon — which it defines as carrying pike fly tackle — will face an immediate ban. Where a separate Blagdon pike offering runs it does so under its own rules and its own terms.
THE FLY RULES ARE ALSO TIGHTER. Flies no larger than two inches, leader strength not exceeding twenty-five pounds, and no wire traces or armoured tippet. Across both waters no fly may weigh more than five grams.
Everything else follows the operator's general regulations: fly only with one rod, no bait, spinning, trolling or trailing, no brown trout taken, all coarse fish returned, and permits issued at Blagdon Lodge in the mornings during the season.
What they cover: Fly fishing, Game fishing.
How you book: Day tickets on arrival, Book in advance.
The fishery’s own conditions: Fly only, No night fishing, Limited take, on the fishery's own terms. These are conditions of this water, not law.
Season: Open through the fly season, with the lodge issuing permits in the mornings.
On site: Permits issued at Blagdon Lodge during the season. Boats with lifejackets.
The fishery’s own rules, in its own terms:
- Only fly fishing, using traditional fly tackle, with one rod in use at a time. Bait, spinning, trolling and trailing are prohibited.
- Flies no larger than two inches, and no fly heavier than five grams.
- Leader strength must not exceed twenty-five pounds, and wire traces and armoured tippet are not permitted.
- Pike fly fishing is not permitted, and the operator states that carrying pike fly tackle here will result in an immediate ban.
- No brown trout may be taken, and all coarse fish must be returned.
- The dam, the bywash, the stream mouths at Butcombe and Ubley and the water in front of the top end bird hide are closed to fishing.

Bluebell Lakes
Carp and specimen water · Tansor, Oundle, Northamptonshire
Five specimen carp lakes and a stretch of the River Nene near Oundle, sold as a ticket bought at reception rather than booked, with two waters restricted to experienced anglers.
More about Bluebell LakesLess about Bluebell Lakes
A specimen carp venue in the Nene valley whose waters run from ordinary day-ticket lakes up to Kingfisher and Swan, both of which are restricted to anglers over sixteen who are confident handling fish to sixty-five pounds and who carry a heavy weigh sling, a large padded mat, a forty-two-inch net and at least twelve-pound line.
THERE IS NO BOOKING SYSTEM AND THAT IS DELIBERATE. Tickets are bought at reception on arrival, vehicles stay in the car park while a peg is chosen, and a bucket does not reserve a swim — only a valid sticker does.
THE FISH-CARE RULES ARE THE HEART OF IT: manufactured barbless hooks only with crushed barbs explicitly refused, no braided mainline, no keepsacks, and every angler expected to bring their own forty-two-inch landing net and unhooking mat or cradle. Carp anglers may not use maggots on any lake, and nuts are banned outright.
PIKE ARE HELD AND ARE NOT GENERALLY FISHED FOR. Pike fishing is permitted in Bluebell Lake and the river only, in winter only, and livebaiting is not allowed anywhere on the complex.
Stays run to fourteen days on one lake. There are shower blocks, toilets, a tackle shop and a cafe.
What they cover: Carp fishing, Coarse fishing, Fresh bait.
How you book: Day tickets on arrival.
The fishery’s own conditions: Bait fishing permitted, Coarse tactics permitted, Barbless hooks only, No livebait, Night fishing permitted, Catch and release only. These are conditions of this water, not law.
Season: Open all year, with longer hours from April to September and a dusk close through the winter.
On site: Male and female shower blocks and toilets. An on-site tackle shop and a cafe. A cleaning station and an electric vehicle charging point.
The fishery’s own rules, in its own terms:
- No bookings are taken — tickets are bought at reception on arrival.
- Manufactured barbless hooks only. Crushing the barb of a barbed hook is explicitly not accepted.
- No braided mainline, no keepsacks, and every angler must carry their own forty-two-inch landing net and unhooking mat or cradle.
- No maggots for carp anglers on any lake, and no nuts.
- Pike fishing is permitted in Bluebell Lake and the river only, and in winter only. No livebaiting anywhere.
- Kingfisher and Swan are for experienced anglers over sixteen, with a heavy weigh sling, a large padded mat and a minimum of twelve-pound line.

Chew Valley Lake
Stocked trout stillwater · Chew Stoke, Somerset
A large Somerset supply reservoir run as a fly-only trout fishery, and the one water in its operator's system where fishing for pike is permitted.
More about Chew Valley LakeLess about Chew Valley Lake
The larger of the two Bristol Water trout reservoirs and the more varied fishery, with permits issued at Woodford Lodge for bank and boat.
TROUT FISHING IS FLY ONLY AND ONE ROD. Bait, spinning, trolling and trailing are all prohibited. Bag limits are set per permit type, unfilled quota cannot be passed to another rod, and fish may be returned before the bag is complete provided barbless flies are used. NO BROWN TROUT MAY BE TAKEN at all, and every coarse fish goes back.
PIKE ARE THE REASON THIS WATER IS DIFFERENT FROM ITS NEIGHBOUR. Pike fly fishing is permitted here and nowhere else the operator runs, on a forty-pound wire trace. Deadbait and lure fishing for pike is a separate offering again, on published dates in February and from October into early December, booked by session as either a boat for two or a pair of bank rods, with a limited number of predator season tickets released in a single week each January.
THE PIKE RULES ARE UNUSUALLY EXPLICIT AND WORTH READING BEFORE TRAVELLING. Wire trace at forty pounds minimum. Only one prong of a deadbait treble may carry a barb and every other hook must be barbless. Twenty-pound mono or forty-pound braid as a minimum. Two rods, no more than a metre apart, with the angler within five metres of them. Forceps or an equivalent unhooking tool carried. Fish returned as soon as possible.
What they cover: Fly fishing, Game fishing, Lure fishing, Tuition.

- Deadbait and lure pike fishing runs only on published dates, booked as a boat for two anglers or a pair of bank permits.
- For pike: only one prong of a deadbait treble may carry a barb, all other hooks barbless, minimum twenty-pound mono or forty-pound braid, and a means of unhooking carried.
- Anglers must not wade deeper than the tops of thigh waders, and several stretches including the dam and the nature reserve are closed to fishing.

Lake of Menteith Fisheries
Stocked trout stillwater · Port of Menteith, Stirlingshire
Seven hundred acres of natural lake below the Trossachs, fished entirely from boats with the fly, stocked with trout reared on the fishery's own farm.
More about Lake of Menteith FisheriesLess about Lake of Menteith Fisheries
Scotland's only natural lake rather than loch, and one of the few large stillwaters in Britain fished exclusively from a boat: there is no bank fishing, and the fleet is thirty-six fifteen-foot boats supplied with an outboard, oars, a net and a drogue.
THE RULES ARE THE FISHERY'S OWN AND THEY ARE SPECIFIC. Fly fishing only — no trolling, no hand-lining, no bait of any kind. Barbless or debarbed hooks whenever fish are being released. Everything under eleven inches goes back. Above about twenty degrees of water temperature the fishery asks anglers to stop releasing trout at all, which is a welfare rule most waters do not publish.
PIKE ARE IN IT AND ARE NOT FISHED FOR IN THE ORDINARY SENSE. They may be fished for on debarbed single hooks to size 6 and every one goes back unharmed.

Two lochs are fished with the fly and a third water is a bait pond, which makes it one of the few places able to take a fly angler and a family with bait rods on the same visit. The lochs are stocked with rainbow and brown trout.
THE RULES ARE UNUSUALLY SPECIFIC AND ARE THE FISHERY'S OWN. Barbless or de-barbed hooks only, single flies only, and boobies are not permitted. All fishing is catch and release. Those are conditions of the water rather than anything in law, and they are the kind of thing worth knowing before a two-hour drive.
Day tickets are available on arrival and most visits need no advance booking, which is the practical difference between this and a syndicate water.

Partridge Lakes Fishery
Commercial coarse fishery · Culcheth, Warrington, Cheshire
Seventy acres of purpose-built Cheshire coarse fishery with almost four hundred pegs across fifteen waters, long one of the north-west's best-known match venues and now turning towards day-ticket and family angling.
More about Partridge Lakes FisheryLess about Partridge Lakes Fishery
A landscaped commercial fishery built out of former potato ground from 1996, and one of the north-west's best-known match venues. Fifteen shaped waters — Pine, Marsh, Piper, Willow, Gold, Tweed, Ribbon, Spey, the Coveys and others — carry 394 pegs between them.
THE FISHERY HAS ENDED ITS OPEN MATCHES, WHICH CHANGES WHAT A VISIT HERE IS. The angling press reports attendances fell to where the fishery was losing money running them, and the stated focus is now day tickets and families, with beginner sessions and coaching planned. Club matches continue, as do the over-sixty and blue-badge opens. Check before travelling for an open.
THE ONE RULE MOST VISITORS NEED TO KNOW IS THAT NIGHT FISHING IS NOT PERMITTED. This is a day fishery with gates that open and close, and anglers pack up half an hour before they shut.
THE REST ARE MATCH-FISHERY RULES AND THEY ARE TIGHT. No keepnets. Barbless hooks to size 14, and size 12 on three waters. No braid. In-line method feeders only. No elasticated methods except one named system. No fixed or floatless rigs. No nuts, no cat or dog food. Two rods per peg, never unattended.
Holbar is the exclusive day-ticket carp water; Gold is members-only and holds carp to the low twenties, perch to five pounds, tench, crucians and silverfish. Day tickets are best bought online. There is a tackle and bait shop, a cafe and a junior angling programme.
What they cover: Coarse fishing, Carp fishing, Fresh bait, Tuition.

On site: An on-site tackle and bait shop. A lakeside cafe serving hot food. A junior angling programme and corporate and club match bookings.
The fishery’s own rules, in its own terms:

The Fishing Passport
River or beat · Wales, the Welsh Marches and Scotland
A not-for-profit online day-ticket scheme run by a river trust, giving access to more than two hundred river and stillwater fisheries across Wales, the Marches and Scotland.
More about The Fishing PassportLess about The Fishing Passport
NOT A FISHERY BUT THE WAY INTO SEVERAL HUNDRED OF THEM, and it is recorded here because for a great deal of British river fishing it is the only realistic route from wanting to go to being allowed to.
River fishing in Britain is almost entirely private, and the beats that make up a wild trout or grayling river are held by farmers, estates and clubs who have no way of selling a stranger a day. The Wye & Usk Foundation built a booking system that lets them, and it has grown from the two rivers it is named for to over two hundred waters.
THE WILD STREAMS PROGRAMME IS THE PART THAT MATTERS MOST TO A TROUT ANGLER. It offers small wild trout streams — many of them restored by the foundation's own habitat work — on a season permit or on a day ticket, which is a genuinely unusual thing to be able to buy.
A reader browses beats by river, by area, by date or by ticket type, reads previous anglers' catch returns before choosing, and books online. Beat rules, seasons and any catch-and-release conditions are set by the individual fishery rather than by the scheme, so what is permitted differs from beat to beat and has to be read there.
What they cover: Fly fishing, Game fishing, Coarse fishing.
How you book: Book in advance, Membership or syndicate.
The fishery’s own conditions: Fly fishing permitted. These are conditions of this water, not law.
Season: Seasons are set per river and per beat by the fishery that owns it, and the scheme's search is organised by date for that reason.
On site: Beat-by-beat listings with maps, galleries and previous anglers' catch returns. River level and weather condition reporting across the covered rivers.
The fishery’s own rules, in its own terms:
- Rules, seasons and any catch-and-release conditions are set by each individual beat or fishery, not by the scheme, and must be read on the beat's own listing.
- Wild Streams beats are available either on a season permit or on a day ticket.
- Anglers are asked to submit a catch return after fishing, and previous returns are published against each beat.

Charters and fishing trips
Argyll-Sea Tours
Charter and fishing trips · Oban, Argyll and Bute
A twelve-passenger boat working out of Oban on Scotland's west coast, running short fishing trips into the Firth of Lorn with everything supplied and no experience assumed.
More about Argyll-Sea ToursLess about Argyll-Sea Tours
The operator's own site describes a three-hour fishing trip from Oban aboard the MV Creagallan, fishing mainly for mackerel, with all equipment included and no previous experience needed. The boat carries twelve and also runs wildlife and sightseeing work on the same water, which is the ordinary pattern for a west-coast Scottish charter: the fishing and the wildlife share a hull and a season.
WHAT THE GROUND IS. Oban sits at the mouth of the Firth of Lorn behind the Isle of Kerrera, with Loch Etive to the north-east and the Sound of Mull beyond. It is sheltered water by west-coast standards and the reason a short trip is possible at all — an equivalent boat on an exposed coast could not offer three hours and mean it.
A TOURISM LISTING FOR THE SAME BOAT DESCRIBES A FULL-DAY SKATE CHARTER. That is not on the operator's own current page and is recorded in this record's verification history as an open question rather than as an offering. Common skate on this coast is a specialist, protected, catch-and-release fishery and anybody wanting it should ask the operator directly.

Brasilia Fishing Charter
Charter and fishing trips · Horta, Faial, and Ponta Delgada, São Miguel
Two boats fishing the Azores on two different islands in two different parts of the summer — São Miguel in June and July, Faial from July to October.
More about Brasilia Fishing CharterLess about Brasilia Fishing Charter
THE TWO SEASONS ARE THE POINT, AND THEY ARE A FISHING FACT RATHER THAN A LOGISTICAL ONE. The operator states that it works out of Ponta Delgada on São Miguel from 1 June to 31 July, and out of Horta on Faial from 1 July to 31 October. A charter fleet does not move six hundred kilometres across an archipelago for convenience; it moves because the fish do, and an operator publishing both dates is publishing the shape of the Azorean season more precisely than any authority does.
The vessels are Nell Magic and Makaira. All big-game tackle, lures and baits are included on the operator's account, and the species named runs from blue marlin and bigeye tuna down through white marlin, spearfish, dorado, wahoo and amberjack.
The operator also names white marlin and the Atlantic spearfishes. FishingHQ has no guide to either yet, so neither is listed above — that gap is ours rather than the operator's.

Cavalier & Blue Marlin Sport Fishing

Two boats out of Puerto Rico on the southern coast of Gran Canaria, working reef ground through the winter and blue water through the summer, and releasing every billfish.
More about Cavalier & Blue Marlin Sport FishingLess about Cavalier & Blue Marlin Sport Fishing
THE SEASON IS THE USEFUL PART, AND THE OPERATOR PUBLISHES IT MONTH BY MONTH. On its own account: bottom and reef fishing from November to May, for breams, snappers, jacks and rays; tunas — skipjack, albacore, bigeye, yellowfin and bluefin — concentrated in March and April; and the big-game season for blue and white marlin, spearfish, wahoo and dorado running from May to November.
That is one operator's account of one stretch of coast rather than a rule about the Canaries, and it is more resolution than any authority publishes about the archipelago. It also says something a visitor would not otherwise guess: there is a fishery here in the months when the marlin are gone, and it is a different kind of fishing on different ground.
Trips are run as shared part-charters as well as private full charters, which matters more here than it does in Britain — a full day on a big-game boat is otherwise beyond most visiting anglers, and a shared rod is how most people actually fish Gran Canaria.
THE RELEASE POLICY IS THE OPERATOR'S OWN AND IT IS UNUSUALLY BROAD: it states that all blue and white marlin, spearfish, sharks and rays are released immediately after capture.
What they cover: Sea fishing, Lure fishing.
How you book: Book a place on a shared trip, Charter the whole boat, Book in advance.
Trips the operator advertises:
- Shared part-charters, 09:00 to 15:00.
- Private full charters, 09:00 to 15:00 or extended, for up to six.
- Shorter afternoon family trips.
- Bottom and reef fishing, November to May on the operator's account.
- Tuna, concentrated in March and April on the operator's account.
- Big game — marlin, spearfish, wahoo, dorado — May to November on the operator's account.
Where it fishes: The blue water off the southern coast of Gran Canaria for big game, and inshore reef ground on the same coast through the winter months, on the operator's own account.
Permitted fishery: Atlantic bluefin tuna may only be targeted under a permit or programme run by a fisheries authority. This listing records that the operator advertises the trip. Cee King
Charter and fishing trips · Whitby, North Yorkshire
A Whitby charter running anything from three to twelve hours depending on the season and the fish, naming haddock and ling alongside the cod the port is known for.
More about Cee KingLess about Cee King
Steve Murgatroyd skippers the Cee King from Whitby Harbour, carrying up to eight anglers plus two crew. The operator states that trips vary from three to twelve hours depending on the time of year, the intended catch and what the group wants, and names cod, haddock, ling and mackerel. Rods and tackle can be provided on shorter trips.
WHY BOTH WHITBY BOATS ARE LISTED. Two operators from one port is the smallest number that gives a reader a choice rather than a listing, and these two differ in a way that matters: a fixed four or eight hours against a range from three to twelve, and one named species against four. Whether that is a genuinely different operation or a different way of writing a website is not established, and it would be wrong to claim otherwise.
A THREE-HOUR OPTION ON THIS COAST is worth noticing on its own. Whitby's fishing is largely offshore wreck and reef work, and a short trip means staying inshore — which is a different day's fishing rather than a shorter version of the same one.

Trip types on the operator's own account are bluefin tuna, shark on a catch-and-release basis, wreck and reef fishing, and mackerel and bass, alongside wildlife trips and research, survey and media charters. Bait and tackle are provided.
THE BLUEFIN IS THE INTERESTING PART. Atlantic bluefin returned to Cornish water in numbers within the last decade after decades of absence, and the recreational fishery for them in England operates under a specific permitted-and-monitored arrangement rather than as ordinary sea angling. What that means in any given season is a question for the operator and for the fisheries authority, not for this page.

THE RELEASE POLICY IS THE PART WORTH READING TWICE. The operator states that it practises tag and release for billfish. Madeira's reputation rests on very large blue marlin, a grander fishery is exactly where a release policy matters most, and an operator publishing one is making a checkable commitment rather than a marketing claim.
The site cites two magazine features about its skipper. FishingHQ does not repeat what they say about him: whether a captain is among the best in the world is not a fact this site is in a position to assert, and the useful facts — the boat, the water, the fish, the policy — do not depend on it.

The operator runs the Aura Marina, a Hatteras 45, and describes trolling with the currican, jigging and bottom fishing, with rods and reels specified for each and equipment provided. Marlin, shark and tuna are the fishing it names.
WHY THE GROUND IS UNUSUAL. Lanzarote has almost no shelf. The slope off the southern coast falls away within about a mile of Puerto Calero and continues past a thousand metres, and deeper still on the island's western side. A boat here reaches blue water in the time an equivalent boat off an Atlantic shelf coast is still passing buoys, which is the whole reason big-game fishing works from a small island marina.
WHERE THE BOAT ACTUALLY IS. The business is named for Marina Rubicón at Playa Blanca and third-party pages place it there. The operator's own site says Puerto Calero, twenty kilometres up the coast. SeaSpray Whitby
Charter and fishing trips · Whitby, North Yorkshire
An eight-angler charter out of Whitby that changes its whole method with the season — wrecks on the drift in summer, at anchor inshore in winter as the cod move in.
More about SeaSpray WhitbyLess about SeaSpray Whitby
David Jenkins skippers the SeaSpray from Whitby harbour, taking a maximum of eight anglers. Full days of eight hours, half days of four, whole-boat hire and individual places are all offered. Wreck and reef fishing is the work, drifting through the summer and fishing at anchor through the colder months.
WHAT IS SUPPLIED, WHICH IS NOT THE SAME ON EVERY TRIP. On half-day trips rods, reels and tackle are included. On longer trips rods and reels are available to hire, and tackle and twelve-ounce leads can be bought aboard. Bait is available with notice. That is a more precise answer than most operators publish and it is the one a first-timer actually needs.
WHY THE SEASONAL SWITCH IS THE INTERESTING PART. It is a description of how a fishery moves across a year rather than a list of services. Cod hold on offshore wrecks through the warm months and come inshore as the water cools, and the boat follows them by changing from a drift to an anchor. A reader who understands that will book the right month as well as the right boat.

Sport Fishing Madeira
Charter and fishing trips · Funchal, Madeira

More about Sport Fishing MadeiraLess about Sport Fishing Madeira
Half-day and full-day private big-game charters for blue marlin, tuna and wahoo, and — separately — a four-hour trip over reefs and drop-offs for local species. The operator's own words for the two are "big game and deep sea" and "bottom fishing", which is worth recording because those are the phrases a visiting angler searches with and they are almost never the phrases a listing writes.
THE SECOND TRIP TYPE IS THE ONE WORTH NOTICING. Almost everything published about fishing Madeira is about grander blue marlin, which is a specialist, expensive and highly seasonal proposition. A four-hour reef trip is what most visitors actually want and it is the part of the island's fishing that is nearly invisible in English-language sources. That the operator advertises both from the same boat is a fact about the island's geography: Madeira's shelf is so narrow that reef ground and blue water are minutes apart.

Charter and fishing trips · Puerto Colón, Adeje, Tenerife
Two boats working out of Puerto Colón in Adeje, running four-, six- and eight-hour charters on the sheltered south-west coast of Tenerife.
More about The Rodfather TenerifeLess about The Rodfather Tenerife
Two vessels on the operator's own account — a 34-foot Guy Couach and a 40-foot Luhrs convertible — leaving from Puerto Colón, which holds the largest charter fleet on the island.
THE TRIP LENGTHS ARE THE PRACTICAL POINT. Four, six and eight hours, with the four-hour trips running as a morning or an afternoon slot. Tenerife's west coast falls away steeply within a short run of the marina, which is what makes a half-day blue-water trip possible here and not in most places; it is why the island's charter fishing is accessible to somebody on a family holiday and not only to a dedicated big-game angler.
Rods, reels, tackle, fresh bait and lures are supplied. The operator states a catch-and-release practice for trophy fish, naming bluefin tuna and marlin.
The operator's species list is broad and groups several fish loosely. Only the ones that can be named with confidence are listed above.
What they cover: Sea fishing, Lure fishing.
How you book: Charter the whole boat, Book in advance.
Trips the operator advertises:
- Four-hour charters, morning or afternoon.
- Six-hour charters.
- Eight-hour charters.
Where it fishes: The water off the south-western coast of Tenerife, reached from Puerto Colón, on the operator's own account.
Permitted fishery: Atlantic bluefin tuna may only be targeted under a permit or programme run by a fisheries authority. This listing records that the operator advertises the trip. It is not a check that the operator holds a current permit, and FishingHQ does not hold the permit register. The rules for each UK jurisdiction are set out on the atlantic bluefin tuna page.

Guides and instructors
Fishinguide Scotland
Guide or instructor · Aberfeldy, Perthshire
A guiding business based at Aberfeldy in Perthshire, working Perthshire, Argyll and Edinburgh for trout, salmon, pike, grayling and saltwater species.
More about Fishinguide ScotlandLess about Fishinguide Scotland
Guided days for brown trout, rainbow trout, salmon, pike, grayling and saltwater species, with trips aimed at families and beginners alongside the specialist ones. Equipment, permits and boat hire are included in the day rate where applicable, on the operator's own account.
NO QUALIFICATION OR CERTIFICATION IS CLAIMED HERE, because none is stated on the operator's own page. That is unremarkable — a great many working guides hold instructor qualifications and do not lead with them — and it is recorded as an absence rather than filled in from elsewhere, which is the rule this pilot works to.
What they cover: Fly fishing, Game fishing, Tuition.

Kayak Fishing Lanzarote
Guide or instructor · Tinajo, Lanzarote
Guided kayak and shore fishing around Lanzarote on stable pedal kayaks with sonar, with the Canary fishing licence included in the trip — which is the practical obstacle it removes.
More about Kayak Fishing LanzaroteLess about Kayak Fishing Lanzarote
The operator runs guided trips from named points around the island — Playa Blanca, Puerto del Carmen, Costa Teguise, La Santa and Famara — using Hobie Pro Angler 14 kayaks fitted with a fishfinder and GPS plotter. Trips run from three hours upward and all equipment is provided.
WHAT IS ON OFFER BESIDES THE KAYAK. Shore spinning and jigging; shore live-bait and bottom fishing, which the operator describes as one of its family activities; eging for squid and cuttlefish in the afternoon and at night; night fishing; and a mahi season stated as September to December only.
THE LICENCE IS THE POINT. Canary recreational sea fishing licences are class-specific and issued for three years, which makes them awkward for a visitor fishing for one afternoon. The operator states that a licence is included in every trip, and that removes the single largest practical obstacle to a visitor fishing legally here.
WHY IT MATTERS BEYOND LANZAROTE. Guided kayak fishing is well established in Cornwall, Ireland and Scotland and barely documented anywhere in the Canaries, so an operator running it here from named launches is unusual rather than routine.

Spearfishing schools and instructors
FreediveUK
Spearfishing school or instructor · Newquay, Cornwall
A Newquay freediving school offering private one-to-one coaching and technical instruction, operating since 2009.
More about FreediveUKLess about FreediveUK
Private beginner coaching, technical coaching focused on mechanics and diagnostics, remote lessons, and breath-hold safety oversight for film and television. The business has moved away from group courses towards individual training, on its own account. It also runs a store.
IT TEACHES FREEDIVING RATHER THAN SPEARFISHING, and that distinction is preserved here rather than smoothed over: spearfishing tuition is not among the services listed on the page read. For anyone whose interest is breath-hold spearfishing, the freediving competence is the foundation and is the harder half to learn safely — but the two are not the same course and nothing here claims they are.

Ocean Freediving Lanzarote
Spearfishing school or instructor · Lanzarote
A Lanzarote freediving school teaching through three certifying agencies, in English, Spanish and Italian — a freediving school that names spearfishing rather than a spearfishing school, and the page says which.
More about Ocean Freediving LanzaroteLess about Ocean Freediving Lanzarote
Sergio Soria runs the school and lists himself as an Apnea Academy instructor, an AIDA instructor trainer and an SSI instructor. Courses run from a Discovery session through levels one, two and three, a combined one-and-two, basic and advanced monofin, an online equalisation course, a Surf Survival course and an instructor course. Sites named include open water around the island, the Museo Atlántico, wrecks and lava tubes.
WHAT IT IS AND IS NOT. The certification on offer is freediving. The site says that spearfishing is among the things you can do here, and that is carried as written rather than promoted into a course. That is the ordinary shape of instruction across most of Europe: you learn the breath-hold from an agency-certified school and the hunting from a club or a person, and a reader booking on the assumption that the two come together should know before paying.
WHY THAT DISTINCTION IS WORTH THE WORDS. Breath-hold training is the part with a fatality attached and the part where certification means something checkable. It is the right half to be formally taught.

Something missing, or wrong?
Coverage is uneven and deliberately so: it is deepest in Cornwall and Devon, in Lanzarote and the wider Canaries, around Whitby, and across the English and Scottish managed fisheries. Everywhere else there will be a great deal this does not have, and some of what it does have will be out of date.
Tell us about a shop, fishery, charter, guide or school — no account needed, and nothing is published without a person looking at it first.
