Oceanic Fishing

Charter and fishing trips · Horta, Faial, Azores

A 43-foot boat out of Horta marina on Faial, fishing marlin from July to October and tuna in May and June, booked direct and not through agencies.

The vessel Double Header under Captain Les Gallagher, running a nine-hour day from Horta marina — 09:30 out and back by 18:30 — over the banks and ledges within reach of Faial.

THE SEASON IS PUBLISHED AS TWO DISTINCT FISHERIES rather than as one summer. Marlin from July to October; tuna in May and June, with occasional fish between July and September. That separation matters to anybody booking a trip: the Azores in May is a tuna destination and the Azores in September is a marlin destination, and they are not the same holiday.

Tackle is supplied and the operator describes it specifically — 130 lb class on Shimano Tiagras with custom rods — which is a statement about the size of fish the boat is rigged for. Light-tackle, bait-and-switch and record-attempt fishing are offered by advance arrangement.

The operator states that it books direct and does not work through charter agencies.

What they cover: Sea fishing, Lure fishing.

How you book: Charter the whole boat, Book in advance.

Trips the operator advertises:

  • Day charters, 09:30 to 18:30, up to four anglers.
  • Marlin, July to October on the operator's account.
  • Tuna, May and June, with occasional fish July to September, on the operator's account.
  • Light-tackle, bait-and-switch and record fishing by advance arrangement.

Where it fishes: The banks and ledges within reach of Horta, on the operator's own account. The Condor Bank lies about fifteen nautical miles south of the harbour.

Permitted fishery: Atlantic bluefin tuna may only be targeted under a permit or programme run by a fisheries authority. This listing records that the operator advertises the trip. It is not a check that the operator holds a current permit, and FishingHQ does not hold the permit register. The rules for each UK jurisdiction are set out on the atlantic bluefin tuna page.

Checked against the operator's own information — Somebody read this operator's own current information on the date shown. It is the strongest thing this site can say, and it is still not a guarantee that they are open today. Last checked 2026-08-29.

The operator's own charter-information page was read on 29 August 2026 and gives a named vessel and its length, a named skipper, a named marina, sailing times, seasons by month, the tackle class carried, an email address and a phone number.
